This automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners of the third generation (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012) Toyota RAV4 in replacing a burnt out license plate light bulb or upgrading the bulb to a brighter LED unit.

Owners of other Toyota, Lexus and Scion vehicles such as the Corolla, Camry, Matrix, Yaris, Tacoma, Prius, Tundra, Sienna, FJ Cruiser, Venza, Highlander, Avalon, 4Runner, Land Cruiser, IS 250, ES 350, GS 350, RX 350, FR-S, iQ, tC, xB, and xD may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement license plate light bulb is part # 168 from manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko, Putco & PIAA. You may also use other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the # 175, 194, W5W, 2825 and 2827.

The only tool needed to access the bulb is a standard flathead screwdriver.

Pull Out Light Housing
1/4 Turn Counter Clockwise
Pull Out Light Socket
Insert the blade of the flathead screwdriver in to the small rectangular slot on the left side of the license plate light housing.

Gently pull the release tab to the right to release the housing and pull it down out of the cargo door.

Rotate the tan plastic light bulb socket 1/4 turn counter clockwise and pull it straight out of the housing.
