This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the second generation (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 &
2013) Toyota Highlander in changing the rear windshield window wiper
blade. Owners of other Toyota or Scion SUV, minivan, or hatchback vehicles such as the Yaris, Prius, RAV4, Sienna, FJ Cruiser, Venza, 4Runner, Sequoia, xB, xD and iQ may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. A replacement rear window wiper blade for the 08-13 Highlander is 12" (inches) in size. Some compatible replacement blades with their part numbers include the following: Trico 12-A, Rain-X R12A, Bosch H307, Anco AR-12A, Valeo R-12E and Michelin 9512. No tools are needed to change the rear wiper blade. |

Swing Open Hinged Cover |
Lift Wiper Arm Off Window |
Rotate Blade Away At Angle |
The first step is
to gently pull open the hinged plastic cover at the base of the rear wiper
arm.
The cover opens from the right side ("C" shaped edge) and swings open to the left side of the vehicle. Then lift the wiper arm off the rear window until it stays in the raised position by itself. Rotate the old wiper blade away from the arm at a slight angle. |
||
Firmly Grasp Old Blade |
Pop Bar Out of Socket |
Old Blade Disconnected |
Firmly grasp the
old wiper blade and continue rotating it away from the wiper arm while
pulling to the right until it can be removed. Once the old wiper blade has been disconnected, you'll see the plastic mounting bar in the center of the blade and the "C" shaped socket at the end of the wiper arm. I recommend buying the Trico 12-A rear wiper blade since it has great reviews on Amazon. |

Line Up Bar & "C" Socket |
Line up the mounting bar in the center of the new wiper blade with the "C" shaped socket at the end of the wiper arm. | ||
Insert Bar In To Socket |
Firmly Snap Together |
Rotate Blade Parallel To Arm |
While holding the
new blade at an almost perpendicular angle to the wiper arm, firmly push the
mounting bar in to the socket. Rotate the new wiper blade until it is parallel with the wiper arm. |
||
Lower Blade To Window |
Close Plastic Base Cover |
Rear Wiper Blade Replaced |
Lower the wiper arm
to the rear window. Swing the hinged plastic cover over the mounting bolt on the base of the wiper arm and gently snap it closed. For the best wiper performance, I'd recommend thoroughly cleaning the rear windshield and applying a window treatment product such as Rain-X. For more, check out my other
