Highlander Headlight Bulbs Replacement Guide
How to change the low beam, high beam or
turn signal light bulb in the headlights of a 2008-2013 Toyota Highlander.

This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the second generation (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 &
2013) Toyota Highlander in changing a burnt out low beam, high beam
or front turn signal light bulb in the headlight assemblies. Owners of other Toyota or Scion vehicles such as the Tacoma, Corolla, Yaris, Prius, Camry, RAV4, Tundra, Sienna, FJ Cruiser, Venza, Avalon, 4Runner, Sequoia, xB, xD, tC, iQ and FR-S may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. Replacement bulbs with their part numbers are as follows: Low Beam # H11, High Beam # 9005 and Front Turn Signal # 3457NA (also # 3457A or 3457NAK). No tools are needed to change any of the bulbs in either the driver or passenger side headlight housings. |

Pull Off Power Plug |
1/4 Turn Counterclockwise |
Pull Out Old Low Beam Bulb |
The first two steps
are to open the hood and then move to the side of the SUV with the burnt out
headlight bulb. The Low Beam bulb is located near the center of the headlight assembly. Reach in behind the headlight and press the release tab on the electrical connector before sliding it straight off the black and green plastic base of the old low beam bulb. Rotate the base of the old low beam bulb 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. |

Insert New H11 Bulb |
Try to avoid
touching the glass part of the new # H11
bulb with your fingers or anything
greasy in the engine bay.
If you do get the new bulb dirty, wipe it clean with an alcohol moistened paper towel. |

1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |
Push On Electrical Connector |
High Beam - Inner Corner |
Install the new
H11 bulb in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to lock it in place. Push the power plug straight on to the base of the new bulb until it clicks securely in to place. The High Beam bulb is located closer to the inner corner of the headlight assembly. |

Reach in behind the headlight and press the release button on the electrical connector before sliding it straight off the base of the old high beam bulb. | ||

Remove Old High Beam Bulb |

High Beam Bulb Housing |
Rotate the black and grey plastic base of the old high beam bulb 1/4 turn counterclockwise to unlock it before pulling it straight out of the housing. | ||
Install New # 9005 Bulb |
1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |
Push On Power Connector |
Try to avoid
touching the glass part of the new halogen bulb with your fingers or
anything greasy in the engine bay. If you do get the new bulb dirty, wipe it clean with a rubbing alcohol moistened paper towel. Insert a new # 9005 bulb in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. Push the power plug straight on to the base of the new high beam bulb until it clicks securely in to place. |

The Turn Signal
bulb, which also acts as the front side marker, is located near the
outer edge of the headlight assembly. Rotate the light grey turn signal bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. |

Pull Out Old Bulb |
Push In New # 3457NA |
Turn Signal Bulb Housing |
Pull the old bulb
straight out of the socket and push in a new amber colored #
3457NA bulb. You may also use the # 3457NAK or 3457A wedge base bulbs. |

1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |
Test New Headlight Bulbs |
Test High Beam Headlight |
Re-insert the turn
signal bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to
secure it in place. Test the new bulbs by turning on the headlights, activating the hazard signals and flashing the high beams. For more, check out my other
