This
automotive maintenance "how-to" guide was specifically written to
assist owners of the XV40 generation (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 & 2011) Toyota Camry sedan
in replacing a burnt out license plate light bulb. Owners of other similar Toyota, Lexus or Scion vehicles such as the Corolla, Matrix, Yaris, Avalon, Venza, RAV4, FJ Cruiser, Highlander, 4Runner, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, Tacoma, Sienna, Aurion, IS 250, IS 350, ES 350, GS 350, LS 460, tC, xB, xD, iQ and may also find guide to be helpful. A replacement bulb for the license plate light of a 2007 to 2011 Toyota Camry is part # 2825 from various manufacturers including Sylvania, GE, Wagner, Eiko, Osram and PIAA. You can also use a brighter 2825 LED bulb. The only tool needed to replace a license plate light bulb is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the plastic pop rivet fasteners that hold the trunk lid's carpet liner in place. |

Pry Out 2nd Fastener |
Pull Back Carpet Liner |
Grey Light Bulb Socket |
The first steps are
to open the trunk lid and locate the black plastic pop rivet fasteners that
hold the carpet liner in place.
Use the blade of the small flathead screwdriver to gently pry out the center part of the fasteners and then pull them completely out. You only need to remove two fasteners to access the license plate light bulb on either side. If you'd like to replace both bulbs, remove all four fasteners. |

1/4 Turn Clockwise |
Remove Socket & Bulb |
Pull Out 2825 Bulb |
|
||
Pull back the trunk
lid carpet liner and locate the light grey license plate light bulb socket. Turn the driver side bulb socket away from you (clockwise) 1/4 turn to unlock it. (If you were actually in the trunk, you would turn the socket in the counter-clockwise direction just like every other bulb socket in the car.) Pull the old # 2825 light bulb straight out of the socket. Push in a new 2825 bulb straight into the socket. You can also use a compatible LED unit. If necessary, you can also use any other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the # 158, 168, 194 or W5W. |
||
Push In New # 2825 Bulb |
Insert New Light Bulb |
1/4 Turn Counter Clockwise |
Insert the light
bulb and socket back into the trunk lid before rotating it towards you
(counter clockwise) to lock it in place. Again, if you actually laid down in the trunk, you would turn the socket 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it. |
