This
automotive maintenance "how-to" guide was specifically written to
assist owners of the XV40 6th generation (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 & 2011) Toyota Camry sedan
in removing the A/C system's cabin air filter element in order to
clean or replace it. Owners of other Toyota, Lexus or Scion vehicles such as the Corolla, Matrix, Yaris, Avalon, Venza, RAV4, FJ Cruiser, Highlander, 4Runner, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, Tacoma, Sienna, IS 250, IS 350, ES 350, GS 350, LS 460, tC, xB, xD, iQ and the Toyota Aurion in Australia may also find guide to be helpful. Some compatible aftermarket HVAC cabin air filter elements with their part numbers include the following: Fram CF10285, Purolator # C35667, Wix 24483, Beck Arnley 042-2082, EPAuto CP285, TYC 800140P, and ACDelco CF173.No tools are needed to replace the cabin air filter element in a 2007 to 2011 Toyota Camry. |

Pull Off Damper Arm |
Damper Arm Popped Off |
Plastic Side Stopper Peg |
The first few steps
are to get into the front passenger seat of the vehicle, open the glove box
and empty it out. Locate the black plastic damper arm on the right side of the glove box. Use your fingers to gently pop it off the mounting peg. |
||
Pull Box Sides Inward |
Remove Other Side Stop |
Lower Glove Box Down |
The glove box is
held in place by a black plastic stopper peg on either side.
To release the plastic stops, pull together the two side walls of the glove box inwards until the side stops are clear. Then lower the glove box down gently to the passenger floor mat. |

Cabin Air Filter Cover |
Push In On Side Tabs |
Release Filter Cover |
Once the glove box
is out of the way, you'll be able to see the black plastic rectangular cabin
air filter cover.
Release the filter cover by pushing inwards on the retaining clip on either side. Pull the cover off and set it aside in a safe place. |

Old Cabin Air Filter |
Slide Out Filter Element |
Slide out the old
cabin air filter element and make a mental note of the "UP" air flow
direction indicator arrow. If the old cabin air filter isn't too dirty, just tap out the large debris and blow out the dust with a wet/dry shop vacuum. If the old filter is stained black and clogged with dirt, dust, insects, leaves, pet hair and other debris, it should be replaced with a new filter. I recommend buying the Fram CF10285 cabin air filter since it has excellent reviews on Amazon. |
||
Wet/Dry Vacuum Cleaning |
Slide In Cleaned/New Filter |
"UP" Air Flow Arrow |
Slide the new or
cleaned cabin air filter element back into the blower motor housing with the
"UP" direction indicator arrow pointing upward towards the windshield.
If the new filter has an arrow with the words "Air Flow" printed on the side, the arrow should be pointing down towards the floor mat. |
||
Re-Attach Filter Cover |
Insert Plastic Side Stops |
Damper Arm & Peg Mount |
Double check that the filter element is inserted in all the way before lining up the rectangular plastic cover and pushing it in place until the retaining clip on either side is secure. | ||
Snap Damper On To Peg |
Damper Arm Re-Installed |
Close Glove Box |
Line up the black
plastic glove box damper arm with the mounting peg on the glove box and pop
it in place.
Close and open the glove box a few times to ensure that the damper arm is working properly. For more,
