This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the fifth generation (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019) Subaru Outback station wagon in changing the rear wiper blade located on the back windshield window.

Owners of other Subaru vehicles such as the Forester, Impreza, Legacy, XV Crosstrek, WRX, BRZ, SVX, Tribeca, Exiga, Trezia, Levorg and Baja may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The OEM blade size in inches is 14".

A few compatible replacement wiper blades with their part numbers are as follows: Trico 14-B, Anco AR-14B, Bosch H354, Valeo R14G and Subaru 86542XA09A (also known as # 86542XA10A).

No tools are needed to remove and replace the rear window wiper blade.

The first step is to lift the wiper arm off the back window until it remains in the raised position by itself.

Then gently rotate the old wiper blade away from the wiper arm at a slight angle.

Continue rotating the old wiper blade away from the wiper arm until the mounting bar in the center of the old blade pops out of the "C" shaped socket at the end of the wiper arm.

There are also two small pegs or "nubs" near the mounting bar in the center of the wiper blade.

I recommend buying the Trico 14-B rear wiper blade since it has excellent reviews on Amazon.

If you would prefer to have the original (OEM) wiper blade, the part number is Subaru 86542XA09A (previously known as part number 86542XA10A).

Line up the new wiper blade with the rubber blade pointing away from the window.

Insert the mounting bar into the "C" shaped socket at the end of the wiper arm.

Rotate the new wiper blade towards the wiper arm to secure the two small black plastic pegs into their slots.

Continue rotating the new wiper blade until it is parallel with the wiper arm.

Double check that the new wiper blade is securely attached to the wiper arm.

For the best wiper performance, I recommend thoroughly cleaning off the back window and applying a glass treatment product that will repel water such as Rain-X.

Don't forget to write down the rear wiper blade change in your vehicle's service records.
