This automotive maintenance tutorial
was specifically written to assist owners of the fourth generation
(2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018) Subaru Forester SUV in changing a
burnt out cargo area light bulb or upgrading it to a brighter LED
unit. Owners of other Subaru vehicles such as the Outback, Impreza, Legacy, XV Crosstrek, WRX, BRZ, SVX, Tribeca, Exiga, Trezia, Levorg and Baja may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement miniature wedge base light bulb part number is 2825 (also known as the W5W). You can choose to install a brighter LED bulb. The only tool needed to remove the light housing and access the bulb is a flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool. |

Insert Flathead Screwdriver |
Pry Out Light Housing |
To prevent from
scratching the plastic surfaces, you can either cover the tip of your
screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth or instead use a plastic pry bar
tool. Insert the blade of the screwdriver into the notch at the rear edge of the light housing and in between the cargo area panel. Gently pry out the rear edge of the light housing to release the retaining clip. Remove the light housing from the cargo area plastic interior body panel. |
|
Pull Out Old Light Bulb |
Old Light Bulb Removed |
If the old light
bulb was recently turned on, be careful when you remove it. It might still
be hot enough to burn your fingers. Grasp the old bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it straight out of the socket. |

Push In New Light Bulb |
Push a new number
2825 miniature wedge base light bulb straight into the socket. You can also choose to install a brighter LED bulb. |

Re-Insert Wires First |
Pop In Retaining Clip |
First, re-insert
the wires and the front edge of the light housing back into the opening in
the cargo area panel. Then gently snap in the retaining clip on the rear edge of the housing. To test the new light bulb, move the "On / Off" switch to the "On" position. If the light doesn't turn on, press the unlock button on the key fob to re-activate the interior lights. For more,
