Seminole MX Start / Finish

On a typical scorching hot South Florida Saturday, I took a ride on my Yamaha R6 out to the Seminole Tribe Motocross Park.

I took along my new Canon S5 IS to take some pictures and video clips of the dirt bike and ATV riders whipping around the track.

The Seminole Tribe MotoX track is located in the Big Cypress Indian Reservation which covers parts of Hendry & Broward counties. You'll find it on Boundary Road near the Billie Swamp Safari attraction. From Ft. Lauderdale I took I-595 to Alligator Alley (a.k.a. I-75 North).

Practice days for both dirt bike and ATV/Quad/4wheeler riders are Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. The weekdays hours are from 1pm till it gets dark. Weekend hours are from 9am to 3pm.

The Seminole Tribe MX park has a motocross track, a supercross track and other trails. A variety of off road recreational sport vehicles are allowed such as dirt bikes, four wheelers, all terrain vehicles, quads, pee wee riders, mini bikes and pit bikes. The engine displacements allowed include 51cc, 85cc, 125cc, 250cc, and 450cc (two stroke & 4 stroke).

If you need to rent a dirtbike, it's possible to obtain a selection of Honda bikes from Sky Rental Inc for about $175 a day. For new riders there are also riding classes available from the Gary Semics Motocross School. The minimum riding gear required to get on the Seminole MX track includes a helmet, eye protection goggles, full finger gloves, motox boots, long track pants/jeans, and a long sleeve shirt. They also recommend that you wear extra protection such as a chest protector, knee pads, knee braces, and a kidney belt.

ATV Landing

The general admission entrance fee for spectators is $3.00 while riders over the age of 6 must pay $22 to get on the track. "Pee Wee" riders under the age of 6 can have some fun for just $12 per day. If you're tired of practicing the track also hosts races such as the FTR MotoX Series (Florida Trail Riders) and the $10,000 Pro-Am race series. For the sentimental riders, the track has a designated photographer, Glenn of G2 Photos, capturing photos of your experience.

Besides the MotoX Park, the Seminole Indian Tribe has other attractions in their Big Cypress Reservation. Some of them are the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum, Billie Swamp Safari, an RV Resort, a Citrus Grove, the Swamp Water Cafe, and a Hunting Adventure park. I highly recommend a ride on an air boat through the Florida Everglades available at the Billie Swamp Safari. Besides "Big Cypress", the Seminole Indian Tribe of Florida has reservations in Tampa, Hollywood, Immokalee, Fort Pierce, and Brighton.
