This was my first time attending the SEMA show at the Las Vegas
Convention Center in 2007. The following ten pages contain over 600
pictures and a few videos from the event. SEMA stands for "Specialty Equipment Market Association" and the show is not open to the public. The organization represents the automotive aftermarket specialty and performance parts industry. Only individuals representing manufacturers, retailers, vehicle service businesses, corporate buyers, transportation industry analysts and members of the media may attend. I was lucky enough to snag a gig to travel to Las Vegas to shoot pictures of the event for a friend's media company and also his friend's small performance parts company. |

The SEMA show began
in 1967 with just under a hundred exhibitors and only a few thousand
attending representatives from the automotive industry across the world.
The SEMA show in 2007 that I attended was massive with about a hundred thousand people swarming the Las Vegas Convention Center to see the over ten thousand exhibitors, the booth babes, the Toyota Truck Trend off road proving ground, and the Continental Tire Motor Trend proving ground. |

There are 11 main sections or motorsports categories covered at the SEMA show. They include Business Services, Hot Rod Alley, Car Care & Accessories, Performance Tires & Wheels, Mobile Electronics & Technology, Restoration Marketplace, Racing & Performance, Tools & Equipment, Trucks SUVs & Off-Road, and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM).

From what I've read, the SEMA show has exhibitors from the automotive, truck, sport utility vehicle (SUV), marine and Recreational Vehicle (RV) industries. I must have missed the marine and RV sections. All I saw was the most eclectic collection of cars, trucks, SUVs, performance parts, electronic gadgets, exotic rides, concept vehicles, female promotional models, international attendees with a sprinkling of motorcycles, celebrities and an explosive detection dog from the Las Vegas bomb squad.

Some of the celebrities I saw at the show were Danica Sue Patrick from Indycar racing, Wee Man from Jackass, the comedians from "Whose Line Is It Anyway", Kat Von D from LA Ink, the rapper 50 Cent from G-Unit, Matt Leinart from the Arizona Cardinals football team, Jay Leno from "The Tonight Show", Magnus Samuelsson from the "World's Strongest Man" competition, Jerome “Junk Yard Dog” Williams from the Detroit Pistons, DJ Funkmaster Flex, Coach Barry Switzer, the rapper Rich Boy, the Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E. rap groupd, and Brian Deegan the freestyle motoX stunt rider.

To watch a short video clip of the Overhaulin' TLC television show being recorded live at SEMA 2007, click on the link below. The clip runs about 30 seconds long, has a file size of 3.6 megabytes, and is encoded in the Windows Media (WMV) format. Be sure to turn the volume on your speakers down, it was a bit loud inside the Overhaulin' tent with all the grinding and welding going on. |

The 2007 AAPEX (Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo) was also taking place at the same time as SEMA during the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week (AAIW). Since the SEMA show was so massive and time consuming, we never got a chance to go check it out at the Sands Expo center attached to the Venetian Hotel & Casino.

For the photography enthusiasts I thought I'd mention that these photos were taken with my new Canon S5 IS with a 430EX external flash on top. The 2007 SEMA show was a real workout for the camera and flash but they performed flawlessly.
