The Queen
Lili'uokalana Park & Japanese Gardens is a free attraction located
in the city of Hilo along the Waiakea Peninsula Bay and across from
Coconut Island Park. To
reach the park using a GPS unit, set it for the intersection of
Banyan Drive and Lihiwai Street in Hilo. It should also be listed in
the POI (points of interest) database of most GPS devices.
The park and gardens cover about 30
acres of lush tropical land that features large banyan trees,
fishponds, Japanese stone lanterns, Japanese style wood bridges,
rock gardens, traditional oriental plants such as bamboo, pagodas,
bright green manicured lawns, picnic tables, a Japanese tea
house, stone sculptures, walking paths and a great view of Hilo Bay.
Parking can sometimes be limited on
weekends, but the park is well worth the visit any day or time of
the week. |
