How to change a burnt out license plate light bulb in a 3rd generation 2011 to 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport SUV.

Push Towards Left
This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the third generation (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017) Mitsubishi Outlander Sport in changing a burnt out license plate light bulb in the tailgate door.

Owners of other Mitsubishi vehicles such as the Lancer, Outlander, Mirage, ASX, RVR, Galant, I-MIEV, Montero, Eclipse, 3000GT, Endeavor, Raider, Diamante, Attrage, Carisma, Colt, Grandis, Magna, Pajero and the Space Star may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The compatible replacement miniature wedge base light bulb part number is 2825 (or W5W). You can also use a brighter LED bulb.

No tools are needed to access and replace the license plate light bulbs.

Remove Light Housing

1/4 Turn Counterclockwise

Bulb Socket Removed
To remove the license plate light bulb housing from the underside of the trunk lid, firmly push the housing towards the left (driver) side of the vehicle.

Then pull the light housing down and out of the tailgate.

Rotate the grey plastic bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing.

Pull Out Old Light Bulb

Old # W5W (2825) Bulb

Push In New # 2825 Bulb
Pull the old light bulb straight out of the socket.

Push a new miniature wedge base number 2825 light bulb in to the socket.

If you would like to have brighter license plate lights, buy some compatible LED bulbs.

Re-Insert Light Housing

Slide To Right Side
Re-insert the bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place.

Re-insert the bulb housing in to the underside of the tailgate and firmly slide it to the right to secure it in place.

Test New Light Bulb

License Plate Lights On
To test the new license plate light bulbs, turn on the headlights or press the "Unlock" button on the key fob.
