Replacement Guide
How to replace the coin cell battery in
the switchblade car key fob remote control of a 2007 to 2015 Mazda CX-9 SUV.

automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners
of the 1st generation (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013,
2014 & 2015) Mazda CX-9 crossover SUV in replacing the
battery in the combination switchblade car key and keyless entry
remote control fob. Owners of other Mazda vehicles such as the MAZDA2, MAZDA3, MAZDA6, MX-5 Miata, RX-8, MAZDASPEED3, MAZDA5, Tribute SUV, and CX-7 crossover may also find this guide to be helpful. A replacement coin cell, button or "watch" battery for the Mazda CX-9 key fob is a 3 volt # CR1620 available from Panasonic, Duracell, Energizer, Maxell, Rayovac, GE and other manufacturers. The only tool needed to replace the battery in a Mazda CX-9 switchblade style key fob is a small flathead screwdriver. |

The first step is
to open the switchblade car key and place the fob on it's side with the key
pointing to the right.
Then take a close look at Picture 2 on this page to see the release button that needs to be pressed in order to separate the two halves of the fob. Insert the small flathead screwdriver into the side of the key fob and gently press down on the button before pulling the switchblade key section away from the remote control section. Next pry apart the two halves of the remote control section by inserting the small flathead screwdriver into the notch shown in Picture 5 above. |

Pry out the old
Panasonic CR1620 3V battery with the small flathead screwdriver.
Below the battery, you will see a "+" mark on the plastic to show that the new battery should be installed with the positive side facing down. |

Snap Together Key Fob |
Push the new
CR1620 coin cell battery into the bottom section of the remote control with the "+"
side facing the "+" mark molded in the plastic. Line up the top part of the remote control over the bottom half and gently snap them together. |

Place the
switchblade key section and the remote control next to each other with their
buttons facing upwards.
Slide the tabs on the key section back into the remote control section and push them together until you hear them snap in place. |

Test New Key Fob Battery |
Test the new key
fob battery by pushing the lock or unlock button while standing next to your
Mazda CX-9.
The little red LED light on the key fob and also the car's parking lights should flash. For more,
