Tail Light Bulbs Replacement Guide
How to change a burnt out brake, turn
signal, side marker, parking or reverse light bulb in a 2012-2016 Mazda CX-5.

This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the first generation (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & the
refreshed 2016 model year) Mazda CX-5 SUV in changing a burnt out
brake, turn signal, rear side marker, parking or reverse bulb in
the tail light assemblies. Owners of other Mazda vehicles such as the Mazda 2, Mazda 3, Mazda 5, Mazda 6, CX-7, CX-9, and the MX-5 Miata may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. Replacement bulbs with their part numbers are as follows: Brake # 7443, Turn Signal # 7440A (also WY21W or 7440NA, Rear Side Marker # 2825, Parking Light # 2825 and Reverse # 921. The only tool needed to access and replace the tail light bulbs is a flathead screwdriver used to pry open the access panels. |

The outer tail
light housing contains the brake, turn signal and rear side marker bulbs. To remove the housing and access the bulbs, first open the cargo tailgate door. Then pry out the plastic access panel located at the rear corner of the cargo area with a flathead screwdriver. Set the cover aside in a safe place. |

Pull Out Old Bulb |
The Brake
light bulb is located at the inner edge of the housing. Rotate the brake light bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new # 7443 bulb. |

Rear Turn Signal Socket |
Re-insert the
socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in
place. The Turn Signal bulb socket is located near the center of the housing right next to the brake light. Rotate the turn signal bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. |

Pull Out Old # 2825 Bulb |
Pull the old bulb
straight out of the socket and push in a new amber colored #
7440A or 7440NA
bulb. Re-insert the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to lock it in place. The Side Marker bulb socket is located at the outer edge of the housing next to the turn signal. Rotate the socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise and remove it from the housing. Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new # 2825 bulb. You may also use any other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the W5W, 168, 158, 194 or a compatible LED bulb. |

Re-insert the side
marker bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to
secure it in place. Line up the access panel and gently snap it back in to place. |

The Reverse and Parking light bulbs are located in a separate housing attached to the cargo tailgate door. | ||

Pry out the rectangular plastic access panel on the underside of the tailgate with a flathead screwdriver. | ||

Pull Out Old # 2825 Bulb |
Reverse Bulb Socket |
Rotate the small
black plastic Parking light bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise
before pulling it out of the housing. Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new # 2825 (A.K.A. W5W) bulb. Re-insert the socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. Rotate the larger white and grey Reverse bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. |

Line Up Access Cover |
Pull the old
reverse bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new #
921 bulb. Re-insert the socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. |

Test New Tail Light Bulbs |
Line up the plastic
access panel and gently pop it back in to place. Test the new tail light bulbs by having someone step on the brake pedal, activate the hazard signals and place the transmission in reverse. For more,
