Gently Pry Out Lens Cover
This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the first generation (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & the refreshed 2016 model year) Mazda CX-5 SUV in changing a burnt out map light bulb in the overhead console.

Owners of other Mazda vehicles such as the Mazda 2, Mazda 3, Mazda 5, Mazda 6, CX-7, CX-9, and the MX-5 Miata may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement festoon or "fuse" style bulb is part number DE3175 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko and PIAA.

You can also use a brighter DE3175 LED bulb.

The only tool needed to replace the map light bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the translucent plastic lens cover.

Pull Bulb Out of Socket
To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, you may choose to cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth.

Carefully insert the blade of your flathead screwdriver in between the overhead console and the translucent plastic lens cover near the front edge.

Gently pry out the retaining clips near the front edge of the lens cover.

Pull the two plastic tabs on the rear edge of the lens cover out of the bulb housing.

If the old bulb was recently turned on, be careful since it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Grasp the old bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it straight out of the socket.
