This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the first generation (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & the revised 2016 model year) Mazda CX-5 SUV in changing a burnt out light bulb in the cargo area or "trunk".

Owners of other Mazda vehicles such as the Mazda 2, Mazda 3, Mazda 5, Mazda 6, CX-7, CX-9, and the MX-5 Miata may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement festoon or "fuse" style light bulb is part number DE3022

The bulbs are available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko and PIAA.

You can also use the # DE3175 bulb or a compatible DE3022 LED bulb.

The only tool needed to replace the bulb is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the light housing.

Old # DE3022 Bulb
Carefully insert the blade of your small flathead screwdriver in between the cargo area plastic panel and the front edge of the light housing (near the On/Off switch).

Gently pry out the front edge of the light housing and remove it from the cargo area body panel.

Press the release tab on the black plastic electrical connector and slide the power plug straight out of its socket.

If the old bulb was recently turned on, be careful since it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Carefully pull the old bulb out of the socket. If necessary, you may use the small flathead screwdriver to push back the metal electrical contact.
