For my 21st birthday some friends and I caught a plane to Las Vegas to
experience "Sin City". Some of us, including myself, had been to Vegas
before but with family. We booked a room at one of the cheapest hotels on the Las Vegas Strip - The Imperial Palace Hotel. The location was decent with much nicer casinos only a few steps away. Some of the other hotels within walking distance are Harrah's, Caesar's Palace, The Venetian, The Mirage, Treasure Island (TI), Bally's, Paris, Bellagio. In preparation for the trip I had done a lot of research online as to what were the best casinos, clubs, bars, and must see parts of Vegas. Luckily one of my friends was 25 years old so were able to rent a car to explore the rest of Vegas besides the strip. |

Las Vegas Sand Storm |
|
As we landed in McCarran International Airport (LAS) after a long flight from Ft. Lauderdale (FLL), I could see that a sand storm was whirling around the strip. I had been hoping to snap a few aerial pictures of the city but the sand cloud eliminated that possibility. |

Imperial Palace Hotel Room |
Here's my mini review of the Imperial Palace Hotel & Casino. It was nice for the price, the location was great and when we ran low on cash the $5.00 Blackjack tables were much appreciated. There's also a free automotive museum at the top of the hotel which we never got around to visiting. |

Moose McGillyCuddy's |
The Moose McGillyCuddy's Pub & Cafe was recommended as one of the best bars in town for college students. Back in '02 I was still using America Online (AOL), so I had searched the member profiles for University of Nevada At Las Vegas (UNLV) students and emailed them asking for night life suggestions. Moose McGillyCuddy's was mentioned by almost all of the people that I contacted. The drink prices were cheap, the music was good and the atmosphere was relaxed. |

Before this Vegas trip we had gotten together all our movie DVDs that were filmed in Sin City and watched them to "prepare". One of the funniest films was "Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas" with Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro. If you've seen this movie then I'm sure you remember the scene with the Carousel Bar at the Circus Circus hotel. |

Dodge Stratus Rental Car |
As I mentioned earlier, one of the guys in the group was old enough to rent a car so we got ourselves a Dodge Stratus from the Budget company. They conveniently had a rental counter inside the Imperial Palace. Our goal was to visit as many casinos as possible which was easy since they all had free valet service and parking. When we got tired of hotel hopping we just drove around the city to see how the locals lived. We also drove through the UNLV campus just to see how it compared to our University of Florida (UF) campus. |

These pictures of the Las Vegas skyline were taken at the top of the Rio Hotel & Casino from the Rumjungle club balcony. The Rio is located away from the largest grouping of casinos in Vegas so it has a great view of The Strip. |
