License Plate Light Bulbs Replacement Guide
How to change a burnt out license plate
light bulb on the tailgate of a 3rd generation 2015 to 2018 Kia Sedona.

This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the third generation (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and perhaps
also the updated 2019 and 2020 model years) Kia Sedona minivan in
changing a burnt out license plate light bulb or upgrading them both
to brighter LED units. Owners of other Kia or Hyundai models such as the Grand Carnival, Sorento, Sportage, Niro, Soul, K900, Stinger, Cadenza, Optima, Rio, Forte, Genesis, Sonata, Ioniq, Santa Fe, Tucson, Elantra and Accent may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement miniature wedge base light bulb part number is 2825 (W5W). You could also use a brighter compatible 2825 LED unit. The only tool needed to access and replace the light bulbs is a standard Phillips head screwdriver. |

Loosen Counterclockwise |
Remove Second Screw |
Two Screws Removed |
Remove the two
screws that secure the license plate light bulb housing to the underside of
the tailgate door by turning them counterclockwise with a Phillips head
screwdriver. Set the two screws aside in a safe place. |

Pull Out Light Housing |
1/4 Turn Counterclockwise |
Bulb Socket Removed |
Gently pull the
light housing out of the underside of the tailgate. Rotate the black plastic bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. |

Pull Out Old Light Bulb |
Push In New Light Bulb |
1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |
Carefully pull the
old light bulb straight out of the socket. Push a new number 2825 miniature wedge base light bulb straight into the socket. Re-insert the socket into the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. |

Re-Insert Light Housing |
Bulb Housing Replaced |
Tighten Clockwise |
Re-insert the light
housing into the opening in the tailgate. The more rounded corners of the light housing should be pointing out towards yourself. |

Replace Second Screw |
Light Housing Re-Installed |
Test New Light Bulb |
Replace the two
screws by turning them in the clockwise direction with the Phillips head
screwdriver until they are snug. Avoid over tightening the screws to prevent from cracking the plastic light housing. To test the new license plate light bulbs, turn on the headlights or parking lights. Or you can press the "Unlock" button on the key fob to activate the exterior lights. For more,
