This
automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners
of the "JK" generation 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012 Jeep Wrangler in replacing a
burnt out overhead dome light bulb. Owners of previous generation Wrangler vehicles such as the YJ (1987-1995), TJ (1997-2006) or other Jeep vehicles including the Compass, Patriot, Liberty and Grand Cherokee may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. A replacement dome light bulb for the 07-09 Jeep Wrangler is part # 578 (festoon / fuse type). The 2010-2012 models use two # 912 wedge base bulbs. They are both available from various manufacturers such as GE, Eiko, Sylvania and ACDelco. If you would like to have brighter dome lights, install some compatible 578 LED or 912 LED bulbs. The only tool needed to replace the dome light bulb(s) in a 07-12 Wrangler is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry off the translucent lens cover. |

Pull Out Old Bulb |
Insert the blade of
the small flathead screwdriver in between the translucent dome light lens
cover and the black plastic housing. Gently pry off the lens cover by pulling the screwdriver handle down. It might be necessary to remove the screwdriver and re-insert it in several locations around the lens cover to pry it off. Set the lens cover aside in a safe place. Grasp the old dome light bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it straight out of the socket. |
