This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the first generation (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and possibly
also the 2019 and 2020 model years) Jeep Renegade SUV in changing a
burnt out cargo area light bulb or upgrading them both to brighter
LED units. Owners of other Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, RAM or Fiat vehicles such as the 200, 300, Pacifica, Town & Country, Avenger, Charger, Challenger, Journey, Dart, Durango, Magnum, Grand Caravan, Fiat 500 500X or 500L, Fiat 124 Spider, Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Compass, Liberty, Patriot, ProMaster, 1500 and C/V Tradesman minivan may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement miniature wedge base light bulb part number is 2825 (A.K.A. W5W). You can also use brighter 2825 LED bulbs. The only tool needed to access and replace the light bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool. |

Open Black Plastic Cover |
The Jeep Renegade
is equipped with two cargo area (or "trunk") lights with one on each side of
the SUV. To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, I recommend either covering the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth or instead use a plastic pry bar tool. Insert the blade of the tool in between the front edge of the light housing (closest to the front of the car) and the plastic cargo area panel. Gently pry out the light housing to release the retaining clip. Pull the light housing out of the cargo area panel. Push in the tab on the white plastic electrical connector before sliding it straight out of its socket. You might need to use a small flathead screwdriver to push in the release tab on the power plug. Gently pull open the black plastic hinged cover on the back side of the light housing. |

Pull Out Old Light Bulb |

Push In New Light Bulb |
If the old light
bulb was recently turned on, be careful when you remove it. The old bulb
might still be hot enough to burn your fingers. Pull the old light bulb straight out of the socket. Push a new miniature wedge base number 2825 (also known as the W5W) light bulb straight in to the socket. If you would like to have brighter cargo area lights, install some compatible 2825 LED bulbs. |
