This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the fifth generation (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and probably also the updated 2018 model year) Jeep Cherokee in changing a burnt out map light bulb in the overhead housing or upgrading both of them to brighter LEDs.

Owners of other Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler, Fiat and RAM vehicles such as the Compass, Renegade, Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Patriot, 500, Town & Country, 200, 300, Pacifica, Challenger, Charger, Dart, Durango, Journey, Grand Caravan, RAM 1500, C/V Tradesman and ProMaster Van may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The compatible replacement part number is 2825.

You can also install brighter 2825 LED bulbs.

The only tool needed to access and replace the light bulbs is a plastic pry bar tool or a flathead screwdriver.

Disconnect Power Plug
To prevent from scratching the housing or tearing the fabric headliner, I recommend using a plastic pry bar tool.

Gently pry down the rear edge of the housing to release the two metal retaining clips.

You may need to re-insert the pry bar tool in a few different spots along the rear edge.

Try to avoid using excessive force. The light housing should pop out relatively easily.

There are two plastic hooks on the front edge of the light housing.

Gently lift up the retaining clip that holds the electrical connector in place before pulling the power plug straight out of its socket.
