This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the first generation (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017) Hyundai Veloster in checking, cleaning or changing the A/C system's cabin air filter element in the HVAC blower motor housing.

Owners of other Hyundai or Kia vehicles such as the Elantra, Sonata, Azera, Santa Fe, Tucson, Accent, Ioniq, Genesis, Tiburon, ix20, i20, i30, i40, Veracruz, Optima, Cadenza, K900, Soul, Niro, Sportage, Sorento, Sedona, Rio, Forte and Spectra may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A few compatible replacement cabin air filters with their part numbers are as follows: TYC 800029P, Fram CF10709, PotAuto MAP 1045C, Hyundai 2SF79-AQ000, K&N VF2007, ACDelco CF3242, F1AUTO FC35865C, ATP RA-58, Wix 24684, Bosch 6036C and MAHLE Original LA 301.

No tools are needed to access and replace the cabin air filter element.

Remove Left Side Stop
The first few steps are to sit in the front passenger seat, open the glove box and empty out the contents.

Then locate the two plastic and rubber side stops on the interior of the glove box. There is one on the left side and the second on the right side.

Raise the glove box about 1/2 to 1 inch to release the tension on the side stops.

Rotate the side stops 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling them straight out of the glove box.

Set the two side stops aside in a safe place.

Gently lower the glove box down to the floor mat.

Once the glove box is out of the way, you'll be able to see the rectangular shaped black plastic filter access cover on the HVAC blower motor housing.

There are two tabs or "prongs" on the left side of the filter cover and another two on the right side.

Pinch together the two tabs to release the retaining clips.

While squeezing together the two prongs, pull the filter cover off the HVAC blower motor housing.

Inspect both sides of the old filter.

If the old filter is dark grey or black and clogged with dirt, dust, pollen, soot, leaves, insects, twigs, hair and other debris, it should be replaced with a new element.

I recommend buying the TYC 800029P cabin air filter since it has excellent reviews on Amazon.

If the old air filter is relatively clean, just tap out the large debris and remove any fine dust with a vacuum cleaner.

If your vacuum has a crevice attachment, clean out any debris inside the filter slot.
