Owners of other Hyundai or Kia vehicles with the 2.4L Theta or Theta II engines such as the Sonata, Tucson, Optima, Rondo, Cadenza, Sportage, Sorento, and Forte may also find this guide to be helpful.

To complete this oil change you'll need the following items: 5 quarts (4.6L) of new SAE 5W-20 oil, a new oil filter, an automotive funnel, a floor jack, jack stands, a used oil catch container, an oil filter wrench and a 17mm socket or wrench.

A few compatible replacement oil filters with their part numbers are as follows: Bosch 3312, Mobil1 M1-104, K&N PS-1004, Motorcraft FL810, Driveworks DW-4459, Purolator L14459, PureONE PL14459, and Fram PH9688.

This will help suspend any contaminants inside the engine within the old motor oil, allow the old oil to drain out faster, and make it easier to spin off the old oil filter.

Then raise the front passenger side of the vehicle with a floor jack and support it with two jack stands.

Slide under the vehicle with a used oil catch container and a 17mm socket with a 3/8" drive ratchet.

Allow the old oil to drain out for at least a few minutes.

To help the oil drain out faster, remove the oil filler cap located on the top left of the engine by turning it counter clockwise.

Once the old oil has stopped draining out, re-insert the drain bolt and tighten it to just past hand tight or about 20-25 ft lbs of torque if you have a torque wrench.

Do not over tighten the oil drain bolt or you risk damaging the threads or the oil pan, which may cause a leak.

Slide the used oil catch container forward to underneath the old oil filter and spin it off counter clockwise.

If the engine was warmed up enough, it should be easy to turn by hand. If not, use a Lisle 63600 oil filter wrench to remove the old oil filter.

I recommend buying the Mobil1 M1-104 oil filter since it has excellent reviews on Amazon.

This will allow the new oil filter to form a better seal with the engine to prevent leaks and also make it easier to remove the filter during the next oil change.

Twist on the new oil filter in a clockwise direction to just past hand tight.

Double check that the oil drain bolt and the new oil filter are both on tight before lowering the car from the jack stands.

Then run the engine for a few minutes, shut it off, and let it rest for a few minutes.

You might need to pour in the entire 4.86 U.S. quarts of new SAE 5W-20 oil to reach the maximum level.

When the oil level is correct, re-insert the oil filler cap and tighten it by turning it clockwise.

Be sure to check the oil level on the dipstick at least a few times over the next week and watch your driveway for oil spots that may indicate a leak from the oil drain bolt or oil filter.

Record the mileage and oil change details in your service record book.
