Owners of other Honda or Acura vehicles such as the Accord, Civic, Crosstour, CR-V, CR-Z, HR-V, Fit, Element, Insight, Pilot, Ridgeline, Clarity, Crosstour, Elysion, ILX, TSX, TLX, TL, RLX, RDX, NSX and MDX may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The compatible group sizes for the OEM battery include "35" and "24F" sized batteries.

A few replacement batteries with their part numbers are as follows: Optima 8040-218 D35, Exide Edge FP-AGM24F, Optima 8020-164 35, EverStart MAXX-24 and EverStart MAXX-35N (Walmart).

The tools needed to complete this procedure include a 10mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratchet and a 10mm wrench.

The 12 volt car battery is located just in front of the engine air filter box and behind the driver side headlight assembly.

First, remove the negative "-" terminal by loosening the nut in the counterclockwise direction with a 10mm socket and a 1/4" drive ratchet or a 10mm wrench.

Pull the negative terminal off the "-" battery post, wrap it in a small towel and tuck it away on the side of the battery to help prevent accidental electrical contact.

Then lift the red plastic cover off the top of the positive "+" terminal.

Loosen the nut on the positive terminal by turning it in the counterclockwise direction with the 10mm socket and a 1/4" drive ratchet.

Pull the positive terminal off the "+" battery post.

Loosen the two 10mm nuts on the top of the battery hold down bar or "clamp" by turning them in the counterclockwise direction with a wrench or a deep well socket.

Avoid making contact with the battery posts.

Lift the old battery out of the engine bay and gently rest it on the ground.

Try to avoid dropping or tipping over the old battery to prevent from having acid leak out.

Be sure to take the old battery with you to the auto parts store or Walmart. The retailer will have it properly recycled and you'll also avoid having to pay a "core", "disposal" or "recycling" fee.

If you can wait a few days for delivery, I recommend buying the Optima 8040-218 D35 since it has excellent reviews on Amazon.

The positive "+" post should be on the left (passenger) side and the negative "-" post should be on the right (driver) side.

If you've had a problem with corrosion (white or blue powder) building up on the terminals, you should consider installing some felt anti-corrosion washers to the battery posts.

Push the positive terminal on to the "+" battery post.

Tighten the positive terminal nut in the clockwise direction with the 10mm wrench until it is snug.

Try to avoid over tightening the terminal nut to prevent from damaging the battery post.

Close the red plastic cover over the positive terminal.

Then push the negative terminal on to the "-" battery post.

Tighten the 10mm negative terminal nut in the clockwise direction until it is snug.

Avoid making contact with the battery terminals.

Re-insert the two "J" hooks at the bottom of the bars into their sockets on the battery tray.

Tighten the two nuts on the top of the battery hold down bar by turning them in the clockwise direction with the 10mm wrench.

If the new battery can be moved, slid or rocked on the tray, tighten the two 10mm nuts an extra turn or two.

Test the new battery by starting the engine and turning on the headlights.

Please be sure to adjust the time on the clock and program your favorite radio station presets before you start driving.

Also remember to record the battery change in your vehicle's service records.
