This automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners of the 2009 Honda Accord LX Premium sedan in replacing the bulbs in the tail light assembly.

Owners of other eighth generation Honda Accord coupe or sedan vehicles from 2008, 2009, and 2010 should also find this guide to be useful.

Other Honda vehicles such as the Civic, Element, Insight, Pilot, Fit, CR-V, Ridgeline, and Odyssey may have similar tail light bulb replacement procedures.

The tail light of the 2008-2010 Honda Accord contains three bulbs with the following replacement part numbers from Sylvania and other manufacturers: Brake Light Bulb # 7443, Reverse / Back Up Light Bulb # 7440, and Rear Turn Signal / Parking Light Bulb # 992 (or 7440A).

To access the three light bulbs in each tail light assembly, you'll need to remove two plastic screws and their fasteners from the trunk's carpeted lining. Then pull back the trunk's carpet to reveal the rear of the tail light assembly and the three light bulb sockets.

The brake light bulb socket is the largest one nearest to the roof of the car. The reverse / back up light bulb is below the brake bulb nearest to the center of the car. The rear turn signal / parking light bulb is below the brake bulb and closest to the outside of the car.

To remove any of the three light bulb sockets from the tail light assembly, turn them 1/4 turn counter clockwise and pull it straight out from the assembly. To remove the light bulb from the socket, pull the bulb straight out. Try wiggling the bulb if it won't come out. The part #'s of the new bulbs are as follows: Brake # 7443, Reverse # 7440, and Signal/Parking # 992 (7440A).

Replace the burnt out bulb by pushing in a new one, re-inserting the socket into the tail light housing, and turning it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it. Be sure to test the new bulb by turning on the lights, the hazard signals, and having someone step on the brakes.
