signal or reverse bulb in the tail lights of a 2007-2013 GM Chevy Silverado
1500.

This
automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners
of the 2nd generation (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013)
Chevrolet Silverado 1500 in replacing a burnt out brake, turn signal
or reverse bulbs in the tail light assemblies. Owners of other General Motors vehicles such as the GMC Sierra, Terrain, Acadia, Yukon, Savana, Chevy Colorado, Avalanche, Express, Equinox, Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban, Spark, Sonic, Cruze, Volt, Malibu, Impala, SS, Camaro, Corvette, Verano, Regal, LaCrosse, Encore, and Enclave may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. A replacement bulb for any of the tail lights is part # 3047 or 3047K from manufacturers such as Sylvania, Eiko, and GE. The only tool needed to access the tail light bulbs is a standard Phillips head screwdriver. |

Remove 2nd Screw |
Two Phillips Head Screws |
Pull Off Tail Light Housing |
The first two steps
are to open the truck's cargo bed tailgate and move to the side with the
burnt out tail light bulb. Then remove the two Phillips head screws on the inner edge that were hidden by the tail gate by turning them counter clockwise. Gently pull the tail light assembly straight off the rear corner of the truck. |
||
Spikes & Sockets |
Turn Over Tail Light |
Grasp Bulb Socket |
The tail light
housing is also held in place by two spikes or pegs on the near the outer
edge. If you have trouble removing the housing, try gently wiggling it back
and forth or up and down a few times while pulling it straight off. Turn the tail light assembly over and rest it on the bumper. The brake light and turn signal bulbs are located at the top and bottom of the housing. The reverse light bulb is at the middle of the housing. |
||
1/4 Turn Counter Clockwise |
Pull Out Bulb Socket |
Pull Bulb Straight Out |
To access any of
the three bulbs, grasp the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn counter clockwise
before pulling it straight out of the housing. Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new # 3047 or 3047K bulb. |

Old # 3047K Light Bulb |
Re-Insert Bulb Socket |
1/4 Turn Clockwise |
Re-insert the bulb and socket back in to the assembly and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place.
Repeat the process for the other two bulbs if you need to change them as well.
Line Up Pegs & Holes |
Push Tail Light In Place |
Insert Phillips Head Screws |
To re-install the
tail light housing, line up the two spikes on the back of the housing with
the two holes on the truck. Gently push the tail light housing back in place. |
||
Tighten Upper Screw |
Tighten Lower Screw |
Test New Tail Light Bulbs |
Insert the two
screws in to the inner edge of the tail light housing and tighten them with
the screwdriver by turning them clockwise until they are snug. Do not over
tighten the screws or you risk cracking the plastic housing. Test the new tail light bulbs by having someone step on the brakes, activate the hazard signals and place the transmission in reverse. For more,
