This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the fifth generation (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015) GM Chevrolet Camaro in removing the plastic interior door panels in order to upgrade the OEM door speakers, add soundproofing material, fix a faulty electrical switch or replace a broken power window motor.

Owners of other General Motors vehicles such as the Spark, Cruze, Malibu, Sonic, Impala, Traverse, Tahoe, Trax, SS, GMC Terrain, Acadia, Yukon, Buick Verano, Regal, LaCrosse, Encore, Enclave and the Holden Barina may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The tools needed to take off the door panels include a small flathead screwdriver, a Torx T30 star bit screwdriver, a 7mm socket, a 1/4" drive ratchet and a large flathead screwdriver or an automotive panel removal tool.

The OEM door speakers are held in place by one 7mm screw.

Remove Arm Rest T30 Torx
The first two steps are to lower the power window all the way down and then open the door.

Pry out the trim piece at the bottom of the door pull well in the center of the arm rest with the small flathead screwdriver.

Then pry out the plastic trim panel behind the door opener handle with the small flathead screwdriver.

Set the two trim pieces aside in a safe place.

Remove the screw at the bottom of the door pull well in the center of the arm rest by turning it counterclockwise with a Torx T-30 star bit screwdriver.

Pull the OEM speaker out of the metal door frame.

Press the release tab on the electrical connector and unplug the OEM speaker.

The OEM door speakers can be replaced with aftermarket speakers in the following sizes: 6 1/2" (6.5") and 6 3/4" (6.75").

I'd recommend purchasing speakers from Crutchfield since they usually include any necessary wiring harnesses, electrical connector adapters and mounting brackets.

If you'd like to reduce road noise and make your new speakers sound their best, apply some Dynamat Sound Deadener to the metal door frame. It will help stop vibrations and rattles when you crank up the volume.

To replace the plastic door panel, hold it near the metal door frame and tilt the top edge towards yourself.
