This automotive tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the MK3 third generation (2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014) Ford Focus in troubleshooting an electrical problem by checking or changing a blown fuse in either the engine bay or passenger compartment panels.

Owners of other similar Ford sedan or hatchback vehicles such as the Fiesta, Fusion, Taurus and C-Max may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

Replacement electrical mini blade fuses can be purchased in assorted amperage ratings (e.g. 5, 10, 15, 20, 25) from various stores such as Wal-Mart, Pep Boys, Advance Auto Parts, Napa, O'Reilly and online at Amazon.

A red plastic fuse puller tool is included on the underside of the engine bay fuse box cover.

No other tools are needed.

If the plastic fuse puller is missing, you could also use a pair of needle nose pliers.

Place Jaws Over Fuse
The engine bay fuse box is located at the right (driver) side of the engine bay next to the air box and 12V battery cover.

Press the plastic release button at the back of the cover (closest to the driver's seat) and lift the cover off the panel.

On the underside of the cover, you'll see the red plastic fuse puller tool and a fuse and relay location diagram.

Another fuse and relay location diagram is located in your owner's manual.

Pull the fuse puller tool off the underside of the cover.

Squeeze the closed end of the tool to open the jaws and place them over the fuse you want to check or change.

Push In New Fuse
Pull the old fuse straight out of the socket and hold it up to a light source.

If the thin metal strip inside the old fuse is intact and doesn't appear to be broken or burned, the fuse is probably still in good working order.

Since new fuses are so cheap, it should still be replaced with a new fuse as part of your electrical issue troubleshooting process.

If the metal bar inside the old fuse is not continuous or appears broken or burnt, the fuse has been "blown" or shorted out and should be replaced with a new one of the same amperage rating (5, 10, 15, 20, 25A, etc).

Push the new mini blade fuse straight in to the socket.
