This
automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners
of the 12th generation (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014) Ford F-150 truck
in removing the interior door panels in order to upgrade the OEM
speaker, add soundproofing material, fix a faulty switch, replace a
power window motor or replace a broken side view mirror assembly. Owners of other F-Series trucks or other Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles such as the Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450, Expedition, Explorer, Edge, Escape, E-150, E-250, E-350, Transit Connect, Flex, MKX, MKT, Navigator and Mountaineer may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The tools needed to take off the door panel include a small flathead screwdriver, an 8mm socket, 6mm socket, ratcheting wrench and a pair of needle nose pliers. Removing the speaker requires a 5.5mm socket. To remove the side view mirror you'll need an 11mm deep well socket. |

Door Speaker Removed |
To remove the OEM
door speaker, you'll need a 5.5mm socket and ratcheting wrench. The OEM front and rear door speakers can be replaced with 5 1/4" (5.25"), 5"x7", 6"x8", and 4"x6" inch aftermarket speakers. I'd recommend purchasing speakers from Crutchfield since they usually include any necessary power plug adapters or installation brackets. To help reduce road noise and make your new speakers sound better, apply some Dynamat Sound Deadener to the metal door frame. It will stop vibrations and rattles when you crank up the volume. |
