How to change a burnt out fog light bulb
in the front bumper cover of a 5th generation 2011-2015 Ford Explorer SUV.

This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the fifth generation (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015) Ford
Explorer SUV in changing a burnt out fog light bulb in the front
bumper cover. Owners of other Ford or Lincoln SUV, crossover or hatchback vehicles with similar fog light bulb housings such as the Escape, Edge, Flex, Expedition, Focus, C-MAX, MKC, MKX, MKT and Navigator may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. A replacement halogen bulb is part number H11 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Philips, PIAA and Eiko. If you would like to have brighter fog lights, install some compatible H11 LED bulbs. No tools are needed to access or replace the fog light bulbs on either the driver or passenger sides of the vehicle. |

Pull Out Fog Light Bulb |
Disconnect Power Plug |
Old Osram H11 12V 55W |
The first step is
to look under the corner of the front bumper cover and locate the rear of
the fog light bulb housing. If you don't mind getting dirty, I'd recommend lying down on the ground to change the bulb. Rotate the base of the old bulb 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. Press the release tab on the electrical connector and slide the plug off the base of the old bulb. |
||
Empty Bulb Socket |
Insert New # H11 Bulb |
1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |
Avoid touching the
glass part of the new halogen bulb with your fingers or anything greasy in
the engine bay. If you do get the new bulb dirty, wipe it clean with a rubbing alcohol moistened paper towel. Insert the new H11 bulb in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in the housing. If you want brighter fog lights, get a pair of the H11 LED bulbs. |

New Bulb Installed |
Push On Electrical Connector |
Test New Fog Light Bulb |
Push the power plug
straight on to the base of the new bulb until it clicks securely in to
place. Test the new fog light bulb by turning on the headlights and then activating the fog light switch. For more, check out my other
