This tiny island recreational area is located in Hilo Bay on the "rainy side" of the Big Island that gets about 150 to over 180 inches of rain per year.

We were lucky enough to visit Hilo and Coconut Island on a rare sunny day. Other people were taking advantage of the day by sunbathing, fishing, paddleboarding, swimming and picnicking at the park.

If you visit Coconut Island Park, be sure to watch the water closely as you cross over the bridge. Green sea turtles frequent the area. We spotted at least two or three of them while walking to and from the island on the elevated bridge.
