Release Light Bulb Housing

This automotive tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the revised 5th generation (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016) Chrysler Town & Country in changing a burnt out license plate light bulb in the cargo tailgate.

Owners of related Chrysler Group minivan vehicles such as the Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Grand Voyager, Lancia Grand Voyager, Ram C/V Tradesman Cargo Van and the Volkswagen Routan may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement light bulb is part number 168 from various manufacturers such as Syvlania, GE, Philips, Eiko, Wagner, ACDelco and PIAA. You may also use any other miniature wedge base 5 watt bulb such as the 2825 or W5W.

The only tool needed to access the bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the light housing from the tailgate.

Remove Bulb Socket
The first step is to locate the white plastic release tab on the license plate light housing with the burnt out bulb.

Gently press the white plastic tab towards the housing to release the retaining clip.

Pull the housing out of the tailgate.

Rotate the light grey bulb socket 1/4 turn counter clockwise and pull it straight out of the housing.
