This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the first generation (2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014) Chrysler 200 sedan in changing a burnt out dome light bulb or upgrading it to a brighter LED unit.

Owners of other Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep or RAM vehicles with similar dome light housings such as the Avenger, 300, Town & Country, Challenger, Charger, Dart, Durango, Journey, Grand Caravan, Patriot, Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Compass, 1500, 2500, 3500, C/V Tradesman and ProMaster may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement "rigid loop" or "festoon" style bulb is part number 578 from manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko or PIAA.

If you would like to have a brighter dome light, install a compatible 578 LED bulb.

The only tool needed to change the bulb is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry open the hinged plastic lens cover.

Pull Out Old # 578 Bulb
To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, you may want to cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth.

Insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in to the small notch on the right side of the plastic lens cover.

Gently pry open the hinged lens cover and swing it over to the left side of the housing.

If the old bulb was recently illuminated, be careful since it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.

Push a new # 578 rigid loop or "festoon" base bulb straight in to the socket.

(Tip - If you install an LED bulb and it doesn't work at first, try switching it around in the socket.)
