Footwell Light Housing
This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically created to assist owners of the first generation (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 & 2006) Acura MDX in changing a burnt out light bulb in the housing in either the driver footwell or the front passenger side footwell.

Owners of other Acura or Honda vehicles such as the RDX, ILX, TLX, RLX, TL, CL, RSX, RL, TSX, ZDX, NSX, Integra, Pilot, Accord, Civic, Fit, Clarity, CR-V, CR-Z, HR-V, Odyssey, Element  and Ridgeline may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The compatible replacement festoon style light bulb part number is DE3175. You can also use a brighter LED unit.

The only tool needed to access and replace the light bulb is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool.

Pry Out Lens Cover
The procedure for replacing either the driver or front passenger footwell light bulb is the same.

Use a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool to gently remove the translucent plastic lens cover.

There is a small notch on either the left or right side of the lens cover.

Try to avoid using excessive force. The lens cover should pop off relatively easily.

Old Bulb In Socket
Set the lens cover aside in a safe place.

Be careful when you remove the old light bulb. If it was recently turned on, it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

I recommend that you carefully pry out the rear metal end cap to remove the bulb from the socket.

The OEM light bulb was marked as part number Kelly 12V 3.4W.

If you would like to have brighter footwell lights, install a compatible DE3175 LED bulb.

Testing New Light Bulb
If you installed an LED bulb and it doesn't light up immediately when you push it into the socket, try removing it, flipping it around 180 degrees and then re-installing it.

Some LED bulbs are polarized and can only be installed in one orientation.

If the new footwell light bulb didn't light up, press the unlock button on the key fob to re-activate the interior lights.

Line up the lens cover with the light housing.

Gently pop the lens cover back into place.

Be sure to record the bulb change in your SUV's service records.
