This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the third generation (2016, 2017, 2018 plus the updated
2019 and 2020 model years) Hyundai Tucson SUV in changing a burnt
out glove box light bulb. Owners of other Hyundai, Kia and Genesis vehicles such as the Santa Fe, Kona, Elantra, Sonata, Accent, Veloster, Ioniq, Nexo, G80, G90, Stinger, Rio, Forte, Optima, Cadenza, K900, Soul, Niro, Sportage, Sorento and Sedona may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement miniature wedge base light bulb part number is 2825 (also known as W5W). You could also install a brighter 2825 LED bulb. The only tool needed to access and replace the light bulb is a small flat-head screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool. |

Disconnect Power Plug |
The first two steps
are to open the glove box and locate the light housing. The light housing is located at the top of the glove box in the "ceiling". To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, you can either cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth or instead use a plastic pry bar tool. Insert the blade of your tool into the notch on the right (passenger) side of the light housing. Carefully pry out the light housing. Push in the release tab on the electrical connector before sliding it straight off the housing. |

Then pry off the
black plastic rear cover on the back of the light housing. Avoid using excessive force. The black plastic rear cover should pop off relatively easily. Use the flathead screwdriver to gently push the old light bulb straight out of the socket. |

bulb was recently turned on, be careful when you handle it. The old bulb
might still be hot enough to burn your fingers. The OEM light bulb was marked as part number W5W which is also known as 2825. Push a new number 2825 miniature wedge base light bulb straight into the socket. If you would like to have a brighter glove box light, install a compatible replacement 2825 LED bulb. |

Line up the black
plastic rear cover and gently snap it back into place. Push the power plug straight on to the base of the light housing. The new light bulb should turn on as soon as reconnect the power plug. If it doesn't turn on, press the "unlock" button on the key fob to re-activate the interior lights. |
