This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the third generation (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and probably also the revised 2019 & 2020 model years) Nissan Murano SUV in changing a burnt out cargo area light bulb near the tailgate door or upgrading it to a brighter LED.

Owners of other Nissan and Infiniti vehicles such as the Rogue, Pathfinder, Armada, Versa, Sentra, Altima, Maxima, Leaf, 370Z, GT-R, Frontier, Titan, NV200, Q50, Q70, Q60, QX30, QX50, QX60, QX70 and QX80 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The compatible replacement festoon style light bulb part number is DE3022.

You can also use a brighter DE3022 LED bulb.

The only tool needed to access and replace light bulb is a small plastic pry bar tool or a flathead screwdriver.

Pry Off Rear Cover
The first two steps are to open the tailgate door and then move to the left (driver) side of the cargo area.

Insert a plastic pry bar tool into the notch at the front edge of the light housing (closer to the front of the SUV).

Gently pry out the light housing.

If you use a flathead screwdriver, I recommend covering the blade with a thin micro fiber cloth to prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces.

Pull the housing out of the cargo area plastic panel.

Push in the release tab on the white plastic electrical connector before pulling it straight out of its socket.

Gently pry off the grey plastic cover on the back side of the light housing.

Try to avoid using excessive force, the cover should pop off relatively easily.

Old Light Bulb Removed
If the old light bulb was recently turned on, be careful when you remove it. The old light bulb might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Gently pull the old light bulb out of the socket. You may need to pull back one of the flexible metal electrical contacts.

The OEM bulb in this 2017 Murano was marked as part number HT A12V5W-65.

Push the grey plastic cover back on to the rear of the light housing.

Push the power plug straight into the socket on the light housing until it "clicks" securely into place.
