This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the third generation (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and
perhaps also the 2019 and 2020 model years) Toyota Highlander SUV
in changing the rear wiper blade on the back windshield window. Owners of other Toyota, Lexus and Scion vehicles such as the 4Runner, Avalon, 86, C-HR, Camry, Corolla, iM, Land Cruiser, Mirai, Prius, RAV4, Sequoia, Sienna, Tacoma, Tundra, Yaris, FR-S, xB, xD, tC, xA, CT 200h, ES 250, ES 300, ES 330, ES 350, IS 250, IS 350, RX 300, GS 250, NX 300 and RX 350. The OEM rear wiper blade size in inches is 12". A few compatible replacement rear wiper blades with their part numbers are as follows: Trico 12-A, Anco AR-12A, Valeo R12D, Bosch H307 and ACDelco 8-212A. No tools are needed to remove and replace the rear wiper blade. |

Swing Open Base Cover |
Raise Wiper Arm Off Window |
The first step is
to gently lift up the plastic cover on the base of the wiper arm. Swing open the hinged cover towards the left side of the vehicle. Then lift the rear wiper arm off the back window until it remains in the raised position by itself. |
|
Rotate Away Old Wiper Blade |
Pop Bar Out of Socket |
Rotate the old
wiper blade away from the wiper arm at a slight angle. Continue rotating the old wiper blade away from the wiper arm until the mounting bar in the center of the old wiper blade pops out of the "C" shaped socket at the end of the wiper arm. |
|
Old Wiper Blade Removed |
Plastic Mounting Bar |
Pull the old wiper
blade off the end of the wiper arm. I recommend buying the Trico 12-A rear wiper blade since it has excellent reviews on Amazon from other Toyota Highlander owners. |
|
"C" Shaped Socket |
Line Up New Wiper Blade |
Line up the opening in the center of the new wiper blade with the "C" shaped socket at the end of the wiper arm. The rubber wiper blade should be pointing out away from the back windshield window. The new wiper blade should be almost perpendicular (at a 90 degree angle) to the wiper arm. |
|
Pop Bar Into Socket |
Rotate Blade Towards Arm |
Gently snap the
mounting bar into the "C" shaped socket at the end of the wiper arm. Rotate the new wiper blade until it is parallel with the wiper arm. |
|
New Blade Parallel To Arm |
Lower Blade To Window |
Gently lower the new wiper blade down to the window. | |
Close Base Cover |
New Wiper Blade Installed |
Swing the plastic
cover closed over the nut and bolt on the base of the wiper arm. For the best wiper performance, I recommend thoroughly cleaning off the window and applying a glass treatment product that will repel water such as Rain-X. Be sure to record the rear wiper blade change in your vehicle's service records. Please check out all of my
