Santa Barbara
Summer Solstice Celebration Parade
Pictures and event information from the
2013 Summer Solstice Celebration Parade held in Santa Barbara, California.
This past
weekend we drove a few hours from Orange County to witness the 2013
Summer Solstice Celebration held on June 22nd in Santa Barbara,
California. The parade began in 1974 as a birthday celebration for a local Santa Barbara artist and mime street performer named Michael Gonzalez. In recent years, the event has attracted around 100,000 spectators who come to admire the eclectic collection of floats, costumes, masks, dancers and performers. At noon, the floats and performers began making their way along State Street from Cota Street to Micheltorena Street. The celebration continues as the parade arrives at the Alameda Park Festival where visitors are treated to live music, food and beverages from local restaurants, arts & crafts boutiques and a drum circle that anyone can join. |
