How to change a burnt out map light bulb
in the overhead console of a 4th generation 2013 to 2016 Toyota RAV4.

Insert Flathead Screwdriver |
Gently Pry Out Lens Cover |
This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the fourth generation (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and maybe
also the refreshed 2017 model year) Toyota RAV4 SUV in changing a
burnt out map light bulb in the overhead console or upgrading them
both to brighter LED units. Owners of other Toyota, Lexus or Scion vehicles such as the Yaris, Matrix, Prius, Camry, Corolla, Sienna, Tacoma, Tundra, FJ Cruiser, Venza, Highlander, Avalon, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, IS 250, ES 350, GS 350, tC, xB, xD, iQ and FR-S may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The replacement light bulb part number is # 2825 or 168. You may also be able to use any other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the # 158, W5W, 194 or a compatible LED unit. The only tool needed to access and replace the bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the lens cover. |

Pull Out Old Bulb |
To prevent from
scratching the plastic surfaces, you may choose to cover the tip of your
screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth. Insert the blade of the flathead screwdriver in between the rear edge of the lens cover and the overhead console. Gently pry out the lens cover. You may need to re-insert the screwdriver and pry at several locations. Try to avoid using excessive force, the lens cover should pop out relatively easily. Set the lens cover aside in a safe place. Be careful when you remove the old bulb. If it was recently illuminated, it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers. |

Re-Insert Tabs - Front Edge |
Push a new # W5W
bulb straight in to the socket. If necessary, you may also use any other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the # 168, 2825, 158, 194 or a compatible LED unit. Test the new light bulb by moving the rocker switch to the "On" position. Re-insert the tabs on the front edge of the lens cover in to the slots on the overhead console. |

Gently Snap In Rear Edge |

Set Switch To "Door" |
Gently pop in the
rear edge of the lens cover. I'd recommend moving the "Off / Door / On" switch to the "Door" position so that the map lights will turn on whenever a passenger door is opened. For more,
