This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the 3rd generation (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and maybe also the revised 2017 model year) Ford Escape SUV in changing a burnt out front passenger footwell light bulb located under the glove box.

Owners of other Ford or Lincoln vehicles such as the Focus, Fusion, C-Max, Mustang, Fiesta, Transit Connect, Edge, Flex, Explorer, Expedition, Taurus, F-150, EcoSport, MKC, MKZ, MKS, MKX, MKT and the Navigator may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The replacement bulb part number is 2825, W5W or 168.

You may also use any other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the 158, 194 or a compatible LED unit.

The only tool needed to access and replace the bulb is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the light housing.

Pry Out Light Housing
Locate the fabric panel under the glove box on the passenger side of the vehicle.

Squeeze the sides of the two black plastic fasteners and slide them straight down off the yellow plastic pop rivets.

Remove the fabric footwell cover and set it aside in a safe place.

Insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in to the notch on the right (passenger) side of the light bulb housing and gently pry it out.

Press the release tab on the electrical connector before sliding the power plug straight out of its socket.

If the old bulb was recently illuminated, be careful since it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Carefully pull the light bulb out of its socket.

Push a new # 2825, W5W or 168 bulb straight in to the socket.

If necessary, you may also use any other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the # 158, 194 or a compatible LED unit.
