This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the seventh generation (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 & possibly also the revised 2015) Dodge Charger sedan in changing a burnt out map light bulb in the overhead console.

Owners of other Chrysler, Dodge and RAM vehicles such as the Town & Country, 300, 200, Avenger, Challenger, Journey, Dart, Durango, Grand Caravan, Ram C/V Tradesman and 1500 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement map light bulb is part number 168 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko and PIAA.

If necessary, you may also be able to use any other miniature wedge base bulbs such as # 158 (dimmer), W5W, 2825 or 194 (brighter) or a compatible LED unit.

The only tool needed to replace the bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool used to pry out the translucent plastic lens cover.

Empty Bulb Socket
To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, you may choose to cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth.

Insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in between the rear edge of the lens cover and the overhead console.

Gently pry out the rear edge of the lens cover and remove the retaining clip.

Pull out the tabs on the front edge of the lens cover and set it aside in a safe place.

If the old bulb was recently illuminated, be careful since it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Grasp the old bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it straight out.

If you have trouble gripping the old bulb, put on a latex or nitrile rubber glove and try again.

Test New Map Light Bulbs
First re-insert the tabs on the front edge of the lens cover in to the housing first.

Then gently pop in the retaining clip on the rear edge.

Test the new map light bulbs by pressing the indentation near the rear edge to activate the "On/Off" switches.

Be sure to record the bulb change in your vehicle's service records.
