How to change a low beam, high beam, turn
signal or side marker light bulb in a 5th generation 2010-2016 4Runner.

This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the fifth generation (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 &
2016) Toyota 4Runner SUV in changing a burnt out low beam, high
beam, front turn signal or side marker light bulb in the headlight
housings. Owners of other Toyota, Lexus or Scion vehicles such as the Yaris, Corolla, Matrix, Prius, Camry, RAV4, Sienna, Tacoma, Tundra, FJ Cruiser, Venza, Highlander, Avalon, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, IS 250, ES 350, GS 350, tC, xB, xD, iQ and FR-S may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The replacement light bulb part numbers are as follows: Low Beam # H11, High Beam # 9005, Front Turn Signal # 7444NA and Front Side Marker 2825 or W5W. No tools are needed to access and replace the low beam or high beam headlight bulbs. To change the front turn signal and side marker light bulbs, you'll need a 10mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratcheting wrench or a Phillips head screwdriver. |

The first two steps
are to open the hood and then move to the side of the SUV with the burnt out
headlight bulb. The Low Beam headlight bulb is located near the middle of the housing. Reach in behind the headlight assembly and twist off the light grey plastic dust cover by rotating it 1/4 turn counterclockwise. Set the dust cap aside in a safe place. Gently pull back the black plastic retaining clip on the low beam bulb's electrical connector before sliding it straight off. |

Philips H11 LL Low Beam |
Rotate the base of
the old low beam bulb 1/4 turn counterclockwise and remove it from the
housing. The OEM bulb was a Philips H11 LL 12V 55W. |

Empty Bulb Socket |
Insert New H11 Bulb |
1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |
Try to avoid
touching the glass part of the new halogen bulb with your fingers or
anything greasy in the engine bay. If you do get the new bulb dirty, wipe it clean with a paper towel moistened with rubbing alcohol. Insert a new H11 light bulb in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. Push the power plug straight on to the base of the new bulb until it clicks securely in to place. |

Replace the grey
plastic dust cover by twisting it in on the clockwise direction. The High Beam bulb is located closer to the inner edge of the headlight housing. |

Push In Release Tab |

Remove Old High Beam |
Gently push in the
release tab on the electrical connector before sliding the plug straight off
the base of the old high beam light bulb. Rotate the base of the old light bulb 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. |

Insert New # 9005 Bulb |
Avoid touching the
glass part of the new high beam bulb with your fingers or anything greasy in
the engine bay. If you do get the new bulb dirty, wipe it clean with an alcohol moistened paper towel. Insert the new number 9005 high beam bulb in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. |

Push the power plug
straight on to the base of the new high beam bulb until it clicks securely
in to place. To access the Front Turn Signal and Side Marker light bulb sockets, you will need to go in through the wheel well. |

Plastic Wheel Well Liner |
Loosen Counterclockwise |
Turn the steering
wheel all the way in the opposite direction of the burnt out turn signal or
side marker. Moving the front wheels will create more working room in the wheel well to access the splash guard. |

Top Wheel Well Screw |
Remove the four screws along the outer edge of the black plastic wheel well liner or "splash shield" by turning them counterclockwise with a Phillips head screwdriver or a 10mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratcheting wrench. | ||

Pull Back Splash Shield |
Set the four 10mm /
Phillips screws aside in a safe place. Gently pull back the black plastic wheel well liner to access the turn signal and side marker bulb sockets. |

Turn Signal Bulb Socket |
1/4 Turn Counterclockwise |
Bulb Socket Removed |
Rotate the grey plastic turn signal bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. | ||
Pull Out Old 7444NA |
Push In New Turn Signal |
Side Marker Bulb Socket |
Pull the old light
bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new amber colored number
7444NA bulb. If you also need to replace the side marker bulb, leave the front turn signal bulb socket out of the housing so you can more easily get a grip on the side marker bulb socket located above it. |

Pull Out Old 2825 / W5W |
Rotate the
brown/orange plastic base of the side marker bulb socket 1/4 turn
counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. If you have trouble turning the side marker bulb socket, use a pair of needle nose pliers to help you turn it. Pull the old light bulb straight out of the socket. |

Push In New 2825 Bulb |
Replace Wheel Well Liner |
Replace 10mm Screws |
Push a new number
2825 bulb straight in to the
socket. If necessary, you may also be able to use any other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the number W5W, 168, 158, 194 or a compatible LED unit. Re-insert the socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. If you haven't already, re-insert the front turn signal bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise. Push the black plastic wheel well liner back in to place. |

Tighten Clockwise |
Four 10mm Screws Replaced |
Test New Headlight Bulbs |
Re-insert the four
screws and tighten them in the clockwise direction with a Phillips head
screwdriver or a 10mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratcheting wrench. To test the new light bulbs, turn on the headlights, activate the hazard signals and flash the high beams. For more,
