This automotive maintenance "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners of the 7th generation (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012) General Motors Chevrolet Malibu in replacing a worn out coin cell battery in the keyless entry system's remote control fob. Owners of other General Motors vehicles such as the Cruze, Sonic, Volt, Impala, Corvette, Camaro, Tahoe, Colorado, Equinox, Traverse, Buick Regal, Enclave, LaCrosse, GMC Acadia, Terrain, Yukon, Cadillac CTS, ATS, XTS, Escalade, Pontiac Grand Prix, G6, G5, G8, Oldsmobile Alero, Silhouette, Bravada, Aurora, and Intrigue may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. A new key fob remote control battery is part # CR2032 from various manufacturers such as Panasonic, Sony, Energizer, Maxell and Duracell. The only tool needed to access the battery is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry apart the two halves. |

Remove Remote Control Unit |
Slide Out Old Battery |
The first step is
to separate the key fob from the key ring and keys. Then locate the small notch at the top of the key fob located near the red "Panic" button. Insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver into the notch and gently pry apart the two halves of the key fob. Remove the remote control unit to access the battery. Carefully slide the old Panasonic CR2032 battery out of the battery holder. Don't use the flathead screwdriver to remove the old battery to avoid damaging the circuit board. |

Gently slide a new

Line Up Rear Cover |
Snap Together Two Halves |
Test New Key Fob Battery |
Place the rear fob
cover over the top half and gently snap them together. Make sure the two
halves are flush all the way around. Test the new key fob battery by standing in front of your 08-12 Malibu and pressing the Lock or Unlock buttons. If the new battery is working properly, you should see the headlights flash and hear the door locks opening or closing. Please
