Rear Window Wiper Blade Replacement Guide
How to change the rear windshield window
wiper blade on a 2nd generation 2004 to 2009 Toyota Prius hybrid.
2006 Prius Rear Wiper |
Pull Off Plastic Cover |
Base Cap Removed |
This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically created to assist
owners of the 2nd generation (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 & 2009)
Toyota Prius hybrid in changing the rear window wiper blade. Owners of other Toyota or Lexus SUV, minivan or hatchback vehicles such as the Yaris, Sienna, RAV4, FJ Cruiser, Venza, Highlander, 4Runner, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, GX 460, LX 570 and RX 350 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The rear window wiper blade is 16" (inches) in length. A few compatible replacement wiper blades with their part numbers are as follows: Toyota # 85242-47010, Anco AR-16A, Trico 16-A, and Rain-X R-16-A. If you just want to purchase the rubber blade refill instead of the entire wiper blade assembly, the refill is Toyota OEM part # 85214-47010. No tools are needed to replace the wiper blade. |

Lift Wiper Arm Off Window |
Rotate Old Blade At Angle |
Pop Bar Out of Socket |
The first step is
to gently pull off the black plastic cover on the base of the wiper arm.
Set the plastic cap aside in a safe place. Then rotate the old wiper blade away from the wiper arm at a slight angle. Continue rotating the wiper blade away from the wiper arm and pop out the mounting bar from the "C" socket at the end of the arm. |

Mounting Bar - Center Blade |
"C" Shaped Socket - Wiper Arm |
Line Up Bar & Socket |
I recommend using
the OEM Toyota # 85242-47010
rear wiper blade. Line up the mounting bar in the center of the new wiper blade with the "C" shaped socket at the end of the wiper arm. |

|
||
Place New Blade On Arm |
Pop Bar In To Socket |
Rotate Blade Parallel To Arm |
Rotate the new
wiper blade towards the wiper arm and pop in the mounting bar in to the "C"
shaped socket. Continue rotating the wiper blade until it is flush with the wiper arm. |

Lower Wiper Arm To Glass |
Replace Plastic Base Cap |
Wiper Blade Replaced |
For the best wiper
performance, I'd recommend thoroughly cleaning the rear window and applying
a glass treatment product such as Rain-X or Zaino Glass Polish. Gently lower the wiper arm back down to the rear window. Push the plastic cover back in to place over the base of the wiper arm. For more,
